SEMBLANZA BREVE
Mariel Miranda es Directora de Programas Interdisciplinarios de Aprendizaje e Investigación en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Tucson. Su trabajo creativo y pedagógico abarcan una amplia gama de estrategias que exploran paradigmas laborales, contranarrativas en archivos, memoria colectiva y tácticas de resistencia en el territorio fronterizo de Tijuana. En su producción artística utiliza la ficción especulativa, la fotografía, la escritura, las pedagogías postcríticas, la escultura blanda y la instalación. Sus premios y becas recientes incluyen la Beca del Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte (2023-2026), la Beca de Investigación Gary Metz (2023), el Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award (2023), la Beca de Posgrado Border Lab (2022), el Premio de Escultura Marcia Grand Centennial (2021), entre otros. Miranda es egresada de la Maestría en Fotografía, Vídeo e Imagen por la Universidad de Arizona y es licenciada en Sociología.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Crecí en la ciudad fronteriza de Tijuana, en un barrio llamado Las Cumbres (1993). Está situado en el margen del oeste de la ciudad, desde donde podemos ver el mar. Mi comunidad es vital para mi práctica. Es donde me di cuenta por primera vez de cómo la violencia estructural afecta a las personas que viven en un entorno político y social marcado por la clase social. También es donde aprendí sobre los pájaros fantásticos latinoamericanos y los pequeños y silenciosos actos de coraje y amor que se aplican contra el terror. Aprendí sobre la organización comunal y la importancia de observar, escuchar, investigar, crear y contar historias.
En el verano de 2022, mi hermano y yo abrimos una biblioteca comunitaria en nuestra casa. Nos relacionamos con nuestrxs vecinxs, aliadxs, familiares y amigxs a través de libros, películas, comida, danza, y otros juegos.

Synopsis: Through the testimonies of four photographers and their families, we explore the multiple meanings of the walking photographers within popular culture and Tijuana’s collective memory. The documentary explores the photo paradigm shift and the labor impacts in a small group of men trade that depends on their vintage Polaroid cameras to sell portraits in public spaces
